Style Evolution

Hi everyone (I say, confident that I may be the only person who reads this),

Recently I've been doing some blogging for university and although I enjoy writing, I prefer writing about things that I really want to write about. Not that I don't enjoy writing for uni, but I thought it might be fun to start doing some little posts here just because I can.

Don't ask me "Hey, Laura, why are you writing down a bunch of random stuff that you're thinking about that potentially a) doesn't matter to anyone else and b) doesn't make any sense?", because I can't answer you. Or maybe I can - writing is like talking but you don't have to make awkward eye contact and you can ramble however much you want and you feel like you've said what you need to say whether anyone reads  it or not!

So anyway, I've been thinking a lot about my personal style lately. It changes a lot, quite often from day to day or week to week - one day I'll be feeling like I want to wear really bright colours and fun accessories and massive earrings etc. and the next I'll just want to wear a massive black band t-shirt and my Docs. I'm totally comfortable with this and I'm very happy to just wear whatever I feel like wearing whenever I feel like wearing it.

But the problems come when I start trying to define myself - and I think a lot of us do this, try and put ourselves in a category or pigeon-hole so that we feel more organised and comfortable in ourselves. But this doesn't work for me, really. I've been into many different "styles" - kawaii/j-fashion, goth, what I like to call the "would be trendy/Instagram worth piece paired with something really ugly" style. And yes, I know that last one probably doesn't make any sense, but it does to me.

I have seen my friends doing the same thing as well as people I look up to on social media, trying to define their own style and struggling the more they think about it. I've come to the conclusion that maybe it just doesn't matter. Your style will evolve and change as you grow and are influenced by different things around you, from obvious things like clothes in the shops where you live, to things like movies that you've seen and fallen in love with. The same goes for your work, if you do anything creative, you can't force your work to stay within a certain "style realm" forever. It will change, and it will do you good to change.

I guess I'm really writing this for myself to say, "Hey! It's okay if you dress like a weirdo and you can't put a label on it, and two days are never the same. Carry on!"

Thanks for reading (especially if you got this far!!) and maybe there'll be more posts soon!

Haul from Bath (Warning: long and involves glitter)

Hi lovelies!

I missed last weeks post (I know!) and I feel very silly for forgetting since it was supposed to be my SECOND post (thank you, brain!). Hopefully this weeks post will make up for it with all the cute things I have to show you.

This is a haul post I guess~ I did think about making a video but I'm not quite brave enough for that just yet... I am working on ideas for some videos in the future but it's just blog posts for now - and for this one, I went to Bath with my lovely mum as I'm back home for a week from uni and I've been treated like a princess! It's been really lovely having a break from uni work and stress as well as being able to spend some time with my parents.

I got a few bits and pieces in Bath, mostly tops and a few accessories:

Fine-knit jumper from H&M
This super-cute pink sassy jumper was a bargain at £4 in H&M in the sale section! I'm sure I had my eye on this jumper last year but never got around to buying it - it's lovely for spring because of the pastel colour and the lightweight knit.

Left H&M, Right Primark
Also from H&M (in the sports section which I don't usually look at), I got a loose-fit ringer t-shirt in black and white to go with some of the patterned black and white skirts that I have. It's lovely and soft and fits nicely. On the right is just a striped, ribbed, slightly cropped tee from Primark, as it's always good to have basics for when I'm too lazy to dress up cute!
Primark T-shirt
You can't really go wrong with unicorns when you're into cute stuff, especially when there's lots of them and they're sequined! The sequins are holographic so they look really magical ~ I'm not usually a fan of the emoji stuff but this was just too cute.
So sparkly!
I'll just go ahead and put pictures of everything else with captions before I go making this post too long:

Cute socks from New Look to go with my Jellies for the summer

£2.50 Charity Shop necklace

oooh sparkly

Tsum tsum watch! (from the toy shop haha...)

Scented stickers from Smiggle (smell like cake omg)

Various glittery make up from a shop in Bath + a MUA tinted lip balm from Superdrug
MORE glitter (oops) from TK Maxx

SO that's all the cute crap I got from Bath, I'm now looking very (VERY) sparkly and cute.

Hope you guys liked the post and I'll be posting again (very soon!) about my trip to see Patent Pending~

See you soon!

Hello lovelies!

So, I started this blog about a year ago back when I was studying fashion in college - I was really excited about writing posts about fashion and general rubbish going on in my life, but I only made about two posts and then abandoned this completely because of college work and preparing for university!

I've recently gotten back into cute fashion again, I've started re-thinking my style and paying more attention to what's going on in the J-fashion community.

SOOOO (hopefully) I'm going to start posting here regularly! I've got some fun posts planned and some ideas for MAYBE YouTube videos if I'm brave enough!

But right now I have an outfit posts to re-launch this blog ~ so i hope you enjoy and HOPEFULLY there will be more where this came from!~

~Top, skirt and headband: Primark - Shoes: Sales group - Tights: Bodyline - Bag: h&m~
~Alpacasso and Shiny Wooly mini plush from Tofu Cute and pom pom from New Look~
So this was a fairly casual, simple outfit just to go out and grab some boring adult-life type things from the shops (nothing cute ;3;) - I find that dressing up on a normal day can make things more fun thought and put me in a better mood!~

I went for a bit of a party kei//mahou theme here, but as I said it's very casual and I didn't wear many accesories so it's more of just a cutesy casual // kawaii // pastel outfit, something I'd usually just throw on.

Hope to talk again soon, thanks for reading!

MCM Comic Con London 2015! (PICTURE HEAVY)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all well~

Today I'm sharing a post that I've been really excited about and that has something to do with kawaii fashion! (woo!)

Yesterday (Sunday 24th May) I went to my 4th MCM comic con in London with Corey (my boyfriend) and a few other friends too~ We had to get up at 4.30 am to get the bus from where I live at 5.55 am and arrive in London Victoria at about 8 o'clock so I think at the least we're all quite tired!

We took the tube/DLR to the ExCeL center where the convention is held and had to wait until 11 to go inside (we played spot the baymax...).

I went in fairy kei fashion and Corey went in visual kei, whilst our other friends were in cosplay~ I met so many cuties and received a lot of compliments so it was a really fun time!

Before the con (there were no shots of my full outfit ;-;)

After the con (I've acquired a hello kitty hoodie from somewhere...)

As well as taking a lot of photos of people in their amazing costumes and chasing after people dressed as Lapis Lazuli from Steven Universe and losing them (true story), Corey and did a bit of shopping. After all, there's so much stuff at MCM it really does feel like I should just address my paycheck to them and make it easier.

The first place I went to was Dreamy Bows (http://www.dreamybows.com/).
They sell a lot of popular Japanese fashion/accesory brands such as Angelic Pretty, KokoKim and Chocomint.
The girls in the shop looked amazing, one of them was dressed in all Pom Pom Purin themed fashion and was soooo cute! (I didn't manage to get any photos of them though ;-;)
There were so many things I could have taken home with me but, because I quite like the idea of having money to be able to eat, I restrained myself.
I chose out a Listen Flavour T-shirt because the colours were so cute and the design was the best one I saw:

The design on the back
I can't wait to wear it in a fairy kei co-ord (I think I might try fairy boy/boy style with it).

The next place I went was Tofu Cute (www.tofucute.com) where I got some other cute bits and pieces, but I'll show them in a little haul video I'll be making soon!c:

I also visited the Hello Kitty area where they had set up a lounge in a teepee and a little photo booth! (the queue was so long that we didn't get to have a go unfortunately ;-;)
It was so magical and reminded me of Sebastian Matusda's Hello Kitty sculpture that is currently up in New York.

Besides shopping and sitting around surrounded by Hello Kitty toys, there were so many amazing cuties in cosplay and in fashion and everyone was lovely to talk to ^_^ so in no particular order, here's everyone I met:

Rose Quartz (Steven Universe)

Lolita girl in Bodyline's Carousel Print (so cute!!)

Peggy Carter!!

Another gorgeous Rose Quartz!

Two girls in lolita/kawaii fashion (met outside Roxie Sweetheart's booth)

Two adorable Lolita girls (one in a yukata dress!)

Another amazing Rose!

Trevor front Don't Hug Me I'm Scared

KOBRA KID AND PARTY POISON (i nearly cried!!)

Lovely girl who served me at Tofu Cute

Corey and Sly Cooper

A kawaii fashion girl with and Artemis plushie!

A lovely lady in Angelic Pretty's Wonder Party! (She'll be mentioned in my haul <3 )

Professor Layton!

A pink Harley Quinn and purple Batman!

Genderbent Joker and Harley

Finn The Human!!

... he had so many swords... o.o

Giovanni

Dr. Egg Man

(my favourite one) Bee and Puppycat!!!
I had such a magical and wonderful day - I think it was the best MCM I've ever been to!
Look out for my post featuring my little haul where I'll talk more about the con and what I got/what I got up to~

See you soon!

Mini Lush Haul

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a lovely day <3

I decided to make my first proper blog post about something that I'm sure we all know about (and love!) - Lush!

I commute to college in bath and it's always very hard to walk past Lush on the way to my bus stop without going in, especially when you can smell the Lush loveliness from across the street - and earlier this week I really couldn't resist the temptation of going in and browsing.

The girls in Lush are always so lovely and it always makes my day having a nice chat with them (and finding out about new products!).

So, on this journey to the Lush wonderland, I picked up the following products:

May Day Bath Bomb
This lovely, sweet-scented bomb with an adorable badger motif was released in aid of the 'Votes For Animals' campaign in the UK which aimed to make people think about animal welfare when they were voting. All the proceeds from the sales of these bombs goes to helping animal charities to prevent animal cruelty in activities like fox hunting and badger culling.
It fizzed really nicely in the bath and made the whole room smell sweet!

Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly

Whilst I'm not entirely sure how to use this jelly, it smells so good! It has a strong, sweet blackcurrant smell (a bit like jelly babies) and contains gold luster which gives it a magical sparkle. It lathers nicely and makes your skin smell super yummy. This was made for Lush's 10th birthday and is one of my new favourites.

Silky Underwear Dusting Powder

I picked up this product after hearing on the internet that it was lovely for making skin soft with a delicate scent - I also heard it was great for cooling skin off in the summer. As it's getting warmer, I decided to pick this up and try it and it's absolutely lovely. The powder has a very delicate jasmine scent and leaves my skin feeling very soft and not dry.
I'd really love to try some of Lush's other dusting powders too!

As always, I'm very happy with Lush's products and my hands/room/bath now smell gorgeous!

Talk to you all soon,

Laura xox

Introducing...

Why hello!~

My name is Laura (nice to meet you!), otherwise known on the internet as Magical Laura. I'm 17 and currently studying fashion and textiles and I'll be going off to university later this year.

I've decided to start a blog to document my love for fashion - in particular, Japanese kawaii fashion. I needed a place where I could rave/rant/squee about all the things I love without driving any of my friends/family crazy.

I'm not only here to talk about fashion though! Some of my other topics will include make up, feminism, shopping/hauls, art and anything else I can come up with along the way. I'll try my best to post regularly and try not to let watching anime/netflix/eating candy get in the way.

I hope you join me on my blogging journey - let's have fun!

See you soon,

Laura xox
